Malcolm John Rebennack Jr., known by his stage name Dr. John, is an American singer and songwriter. His music combines blues, pop, jazz, boogie-woogie, funk and rock and roll. Working as a musician from the late 1950s until his death, he gained followers in the late 1960s following the release of his album Gris-Gris and his appearance at the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music. He often performs a vibrant theatrical performance, inspired by underwear shows, Mardi Gras costumes, and voodoo rituals. Rebennack has recorded 30 studio albums and 9 live albums, as well as contributed to thousands of recordings by other musicians. In 1973 he reached the top 10 hit singles with "Right Place, Wrong Time". Six Grammy Award-winning Rebennack was presented to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by singer John Legend in March 2011. In May 2013, Rebennack received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Tulane University.
