Dua Lipa made a sparkling statement as she graced the star-studded Barbie premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The Don't Start Now songstress, who recently channeled the Barbiecore aesthetic during her Greek vacation, is set to shine in Greta Gerwig's much-awaited film as Mermaid Barbie.

Alongside other cast members, Dua took center stage at the Shrine Auditorium, joining the glamorous Margot Robbie, who paid homage to the iconic 1960 Mattel doll with a vintage strapless trumpet gown.

Let's go party

Hours after tweeting "Let's go party", the 27-year-old Grammy winner commanded attention on the pink carpet in a sleeveless, sheer chainmail dress that shimmered under the Californian sun. The dress's transparency showcased Dua's daring choice to pair it with only a set of white underwear.

Adding to the glamour, the British pop star opted for shiny silver closed-toed heels, partially hidden by the dress's long hem.

The gown featured a plunging scooped neckline and a low back, which she showcased while striking a pose for the cameras.

The finishing touch to Dua's outfit was her choice of dazzling silver accessories. These included a pair of dangling earrings, a sparkling rhinestone necklace, and silver rings adorning each hand, perfectly matching her ensemble's silver theme.

Her sleek, dark locks, parted in the middle, effortlessly cascaded past her shoulders, enhancing her overall glamour.

Dua's makeup, perfectly crafted for the event, featured a lash-enhancing layer of mascara, warm blush, and contour to accentuate her cheekbones. She completed her look with a darker, nude-colored matte tint on her lips.

Don't miss

As she sashayed down the pink carpet under the summer sun, she showcased her striking poses, later posing in front of a pastel pink convertible for some memorable snaps.

Dua Lipa's Barbie contributions

In addition to her special cameo as Mermaid Barbie in the upcoming fantasy comedy, set to hit theaters on July 21, Dua also contributed to the film's soundtrack. Her catchy track, 'Dance The Night', is the lead single on the soundtrack and was officially released on May 25.

In the pink: Barbiecore explained

Barbiecore may have entered fashion parlance in 2022 but it has been around for several years. Rapper Nicki Minaj has channelled Barbie to such an extent throughout her career, fans have dubbed her "Barbz". And the hundreds of Barbiecore Pinterest boards created since 2019 show how pink couture has captured the public's imagination.

Its 2022 surge can be ascribed to Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli whose pink-themed Valentino Fall runway show in March of that year took the fashion world by storm. The trend was further turbocharged both when Anne Hathaway attended another Valentino show wearing nothing but pink and a flood of fuchsia-clad celebrities rocked up at the Grammy's,

With the release of Greta Gerwig's much-anticipated movie in July, Barbiecore is here to stay and the unconverted may as well get on board now or face looking rather drab this "Barbie summer". Fan's laud Dua's red carpet prowess

Despite some critics questioning the appropriateness of the risqué ensemble for the pink carpet event, a vast majority of her fans lauded her bold and stunning look. "She NEVER fails a red carpet," tweeted one supporter, while another added: "Dua is someone we can always count on to serve a red carpet look." Echoing this sentiment, another fan wrote: "She always understands the assignment."

Dua certainly understood the assignment in 2018, when she stunned yet again when she took to the red carpet of the BRIT Awards ahead of her receipt of the Song of the Year award. Then still a relatively new artist on the scene, she made her mark in the Giambattista Valli Couture dress which she wore for the occasion to celebrate her second single, 'One Kiss', winning the award.

Continuing her habit to take everyone's breath away with her fashion choices, Dua wowed at the 2019 Met Gala Ball in a neon Versace look. Committing to the theme of camp, the then-23-year-old's hair and makeup all helped elevate her already wonderful gown to the status of one of the best looks of the night.

At the Grammy's in 2022, Dua pulled all the stops out with another Versace look which excellently complimented the show's gold and black theming. Her strappy look, despite all it's golden chains and crisscross upper body design still avoided being too much with its long black skirt, creating a showstopping but not cloying wow-inducing look.

Clearly a star who has magnificently embraced 2023's trend for sheer ensembles, Dua stepped out in February 2023 in a head-to-toe sheer black GCDS look to celebrate the fashion brand at Milan Fashion Week. The lace catsuit which she sported perfectly accentuated her figure while being accessorized with some stylish red nails and mini love heart purse.

Later that month, Dua showed how she could also stun in a good suit at Paris Fashion Week. Wearing a monochrome black Saint Laurent look for her trip to see the brand's womenswear show, she stunned with her black pants, top and headscarf look, which she paired with a long leather coat and sunglasses – because she is simply that cool.
