THE Voice has returned for Season 24 and the coaches are pulling out all the stops to get their picks on their teams - including the reveal of secret talents.
Missouri 16-year-old Ruby Leigh took to the Voice stage on Tuesday for a blind audition that had all the judges impressed.
Ruby sang Patsy Montana's I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart, winning the praise of all the judges, enough to give the performer a four-chair turn.
The show's newest coach Reba McIntire spoke to Ruby last, saying: "Being as young as you are, and being a fan of Patsy Montana, I’m a third generation rodeo brat, so Patsy Montana, a country western singer, not just country – there is a difference – I’m very flattered, very proud of my heritage that you’re singing this song."
The country legend added that her mother taught her how to yodel and gave a sample of what she could do, and in the end, won Ruby over.
Meanwhile, Reba has made history in the singing competition series by being the oldest (at 68) and most experienced coach to have ever worked on the series.
The Voice airs Mondays at 8pm ET and Tuesdays at 9pm ET on NBC.

About Reba’s ex
From 1989 to 2015, Reba was married to her manager, Narvel Blackstock.
The pair announced their divorce in August 2015, which was finalized in October of the same year.
Reba’s marriage to Blackstock was her second, following her first one to Charlie Battles.
She married Battles in 1976 and the couple divorced in 1987.
About Reba’s boyfriend
Reba has been dating her Young Sheldon co-star, Rex Linn, since early 2020.
Reba spoke of her and Linn’s romance during an appearance on The Today Show on Thursday, October 14, 2021.
She said on the program: “Rex and I had known each other since 1991 when we were in The Gambler movie together with Kenny Rogers, and then have known each other, kept in contact.
“And then in 2020 when mama got sick, he called me. We’d gotten to see each other before because we’re both on Young Sheldon.
“So starting in March of 2020, we just kept talking and visiting and finally got together in June. We’ve been pretty much inseparable ever since.”
About the newest judge on the panel
Reba McEntire is a famous American country singer.
Born in McAlester, Oklahoma on March 28, 1955, she shot to stardom in the 1970s.
She’s sold more than 75million records worldwide, and even had her own television show from 2001-2007.
Coaches choose songs for contestants
Cosmopolitan spoke with Frenchie Davis, a semi-finalist from season one of The Voice, who shared that the coaches and judges at times choose the songs that contestants perform.
Davis said: “It’s always hysterical when the judges say, ‘I don’t think that was a good song choice for you,’ and I’m thinking, ‘You picked that song!’”
This was confirmed by The Voice executive producer Audrey Morrissey, who added that as contestants advance to the Battle Rounds, song selection frequently becomes a contentious issue for coaches and contestants.
“The No. 1 communication is about song choice,” Morrissey told She Knows.
The Voice format: The Lives
Performers participate in weekly performances throughout the competition’s final live performance phase (playoffs and elimination rounds), when a public vote narrows the field to a final group of performers and the show finally announces a winner.
Since season three, in favor of a more competitive standard seen on other similar reality shows, any artist regardless of team, who received the fewest votes was progressively eliminated each week until five artists remained (three until season 6, then four prior to season 17), introducing the possibility that at least one coach would not represent a single artist in the finale.
The Voice format: Battles Round 2
In season six, the Battles Round 2 were added to replace the Knockout Rounds, which had a similar concept where each singer is matched within their team.
One celebrity key adviser also helps all four coaches and their teams prepare for these rounds. Previous key advisors to have appeared on the show include Usher, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and more.
Coaches provide a selection of songs to each Battle pairing, and each duo must agree on a song to perform.
Similarly to the first Battle round, each coach can still choose which of the singers in each duo will proceed to the next round, and one theft is permitted.
The Voice format: Battles, continued
Season three added Steals, which allowed each coach to save/select people who had been eliminated by another coach during a fight round.
Artists are either awarded a walkover or reallocated to a three-way battle in the case that another artist withdraws from the competition, as each coach thinks suitable.
Starting in Season 14, coaches can use saves to keep someone they’ve eliminated from their team from going home.
And in Season 23, saves are replaced with “Playoff Pass,” which allows one artist to skip the Knockouts and directly advance to the Playoffs (the other artist participating in the Knockouts as usual).
The Voice format: Battles
Each coach pairs two of their team members to perform together in the Battle Rounds, then picks one to proceed in the competition.
Each season, each coach has assistance from a different celebrity advisor. In the past, artists like Kelsea Ballerini, Charlie Puth, Kristen Chenoweth, Julia Michaels, and many more have advised throughout the seasons of The Voice.
Coaches sat with their respective advisers in the battle stage throughout season one; however, beginning with season two, the advisors no longer accompanied the coaches on stage.
There were no advisers in season 23, and the coach was solely responsible for counseling the performers.
The Voice format: Blind Auditions
Each season begins with Blind Auditions when coaches select a team of artists to guide for the rest of the season.
The number of performers fluctuates every season, with a fixed range of 8 to 16 artists.
During an artist’s performance, the coaches’ chairs face the audience; those interested in an artist click their button, which rotates their chair towards the artist.
After the performance, the artist either defaults to the sole coach who turned around or chooses their coach if more than one coach indicates interest.
The Block feature was introduced in the 14th season, allowing one coach to prevent another coach from obtaining a contestant.
John Legend slams Niall for not turning for Deejay
For his blind audition, Deejay sang Kate Bush’s This Woman’s Work, getting a three-chair turn from coaches.
It was Niall Horan who didn’t turn his chair - and he heard from fellow coach John Legend.
Niall told DeeJay after his audition: “Deejay, that was like undeniably insane.”
And in response, and as the first coach to turn for DeeJay, John clapped back: “Yet, you did not turn. I’m beginning to question your taste”
“I have a particular type of voice that I lean toward,” the One Direction alumnus said in his defense before continuing to pile on the praise for DeeJay.
Deejay Young stuns judges
Deejay Young, 33, of Tampa, Florida, who was born and raised there, astonished the judges with his performance on The Voice Season 24.
Deejay is a four-time Independent Music Award winner who presently resides in Orlando.
Deejay posted on Instagram before appearing on The Voice: “I never thought when I first saw @hamiltonmusical in 2017, that I’d audition in the Spring of ‘19 & join the First National Tour that Summer as a Principal Standby, covering 5/7 male principal roles in the show.
“The challenge was beyond my wildest dreams of capability, but I was in such great care, surrounded by a wealth of knowledge & talent.”
John Legend took the stage during auditions
In the season premiere of The Voice, John Legend went up to a sought-after performer and asked, to set himself above the rest of the fold of coaches, if singer Mara Justine had ever sung one of his songs before.
“Of course,” Mara responded before Niall interrupted, “But you don’t wanna do it now, right?”
Ignoring the One Direction alum, John continued: “Do you want to sing a song together? That would be fun.”
Mara sang along with John to his song All Of Me, and ultimately won her over to his team.
More on Blake's decision to leave the show
Blake sat down with People in December 2022 to explain his choice, saying that he wanted to spend more time with his wife, Gwen Stefani, and his stepsons.
"Gwen and I have done so much traveling and touring and work the first half of our lives that now we're like, 'Hey, I'm good to put my sweatpants on at 6 p.m. and watch Ozark eight times,'" he told the outlet. "That's our life now, and we love it."
He added: "If I walked away from my career at this time, the only thing that I run the risk of is having regrets that I'm missing out on some more important things in life. For now, that's our kids. This isn't about me anymore and never will be again."
The couple met while coaching on The Voice in 2014 and married in 2021.
Why Blake left The Voice
After 23 seasons of The Voice, the longest-standing original coach Blake Shelton made the decision to walk away from the show.
Shelton said in an October 2022 Instagram announcement: "I've been wrestling with this for a while and I've decided that it's time for me to step away from The Voice after next season.”
"It's been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew, and catering people, you are the best.
"I have to give a huge shout to the singers—the 'Voices,' who come on this stage season after season and amaze us with their talent, and a special thanks to those who chose me to be their coach.
"Lastly, it's about y'all, the fans, who watch and support these artists, us coaches, and everyone at The Voice who are chasing our dreams. It would not happen without you!"
Season 25 panel already revealed
Despite Season 24 already having kicked off, the panel of coaches for the next season of the competition series has been revealed.
Gwen Stefani and Niall Horan will not be returning to the coaches’ seats and will be replaced by Chance the Rapper and singing duo Dan + Shay. Reba McIntire and John Legend will be returning for the spring season.
Kelly is no more - for now
While no official reason has been given for her decision not to return as a coach for season 24, Variety has claimed that Kelly Clarkson’s daytime TV show The Kelly Clarkson Show will move to New York City from Los Angeles—where The Voice tapes.
During an appearance on TalkShopLive, Kelly explained that her loved ones inspired the decision to change the soundstage.
She was adamant about moving, even if it meant canceling her chat program. NBC, thankfully, agreed to her request.
"Being isolated and so far from your family, that’s not good for anyone. My family is East Coast, they’re North Carolina based," she said to the outlet. "So, it was one of those things where I just had to [do it]."

Gwen is out to get new coach
According to a source close to The Voice coach and singer Gwen Stefani "is gunning for Reba,” RadarOnline reported.
The insider said: "Blake has been the king of the coaches since the start of the show, and Gwen saw his departure as a chance to really shine and take over the reins."
Reba takes over for Blake in Season 24, and she is joined by returning judges Gwen, John Legend, and Niall Horan.
Reba served as a Battle Advisor for Team Blake during the first season of The Voice.
Gwen and Niall have (fake) beef
Last season, Niall Horan and Blake Shelton had a father-son connection, but Gwen Stefani is a different story when it comes to the One Direction alum.
The Meltdown singer, 30, highlighted the most unexpected element of season 24 of The Voice during a group session with coaches in an exclusive People interview.
"How mean Gwen Stefani is to me," Niall told the outlet, jokingly adding, "It’s honestly truly shocking."
In response as fellow coaches John Legend and Reba McIntire laughed, Gwen said: “All of the girls in the whole world are going to be so mad at me! We're playing. It's a joke. He likes it.”
